Central to the design concept was a box numbering and colour coding system which was integrated into all the elements which made up the Tax Return.

In order to accommodate the volume and complexity of the information - a strict vertical and horizontal typographic grid systemwas devised. This basic design discipline was very sucessful in minimising the amount of visual clutter - inevitable with so many incumbent elements and messages.

Type styles were carefully set up to correspond to the various layers of guidance notes: aiding quick cross-referencing. It was a complex task to identify the numerous levels of hierarchy and then make them work typographically.
