Employer's Annual Pack 2001

Inland Revenue - Employer's Annual Pack 2001

Working in collaboration with the Inland Revenue Forms Unit team, we were commissioned to submit a radical way of presenting the Employer's Annual Pack 2001. The existing pack had evolved over many years and had become unattractive, inconsistent in style and content.

The brief was to make the pack more attractive, less daunting, easier to navigate and have a strong common style for all the contained items - which ranged from order forms, information booklets, NIC tables and help cards. In all some sixteen separate items.

Our proposal was to have a strong branding and we devised the giant "E" to quickly identify the pack as an "Employer's Pack". The striking "Olive Green" colour scheme was introduced to make the pack very distinctive and to separate it from other tax publications.

The majority of items are printed economically in two colours - with the exception of items where specific Inland Revenue forms are reproduced. These we recommended were printed as accurate facsimiles in full colour, for quick and accurate identification. In previous years Employer's would often wrongly identify and order forms, causing time delays and frustration.

A smart hard back folder replaced the previous 'polybag'. To help with navigation we used a tab divider system and three stepped layers so that when the pack was opened the recipient could quickly see all the contents in one "Snapshot". The folder was designed for easy filing on a shelf or in a cabinet.

We introduced the idea of having a leaflet in the pack with thumbnail pictures of all of the forms which have to be identified and ordered by the Employer.

In addition to the main pack we had to consider a series of other items including: A trailblazer pack, a tax planner, a newsletter and an outer mailer.

We were involved with the project at every stage including design concept, typographic design, overseeing artwork, print and production and general consultancy. The project entailed a huge logistical exercise. Specialist packaging firms and hand packing experts were consulted to put together 11.5 million packs in a very short time frame.

Initial feedback from Employer's has been very positive.
