Each spread develops the CDR's method of operation using the Chess analogy as a vehicle to illustrate the subtle and intriguing world of corporate intelligence. The stages of chess, the opening, middle and end game are ingeniously woven into the copy. Quotations are used to add gravitas to the subject eg:

"The chess board is the world; the pieces the phenomena of the universe; the rules of the game are what we call the laws of nature. The player on the other side is hidden from us. We may know that his play is fair, just and patient. But we know to our cost that he never overlooks a mistake or makes the slightest allowance for ignorance"
